What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are used as tooth root replacements, and are made of titanium in the form of very small screws. Teeth implants can be used to replace a single or several lost teeth, by bonding with the bone of either e upper or lower jaw. As a restorative method dental implants are accepted as the best choice due to their extensive clinical history.

First Visit: 1 day for the visit + additional 1 or 2 days to rest after the visit as it is not recommended to travel the same day and the patient should be able to attend a control visit 1 day after the procedure.
Whilst the first visit, the bone area needs to be exposed by opening the gum tissue in order to place the implant. Once the bone has been prepared for the procedure and the implant placed, the gum tissue is sutured.
Sutures removal: 7 to 14 days after the procedure. Sutures can be removed by any dentist so there is no need to travel abroad to have it done. In some cases solvable sutures can be used.
Osseointegration (healing process): it takes from 3 to 6 months for the gums to heal and the implant to become a part of the jaw bone. The duration of this process is individual for each patient.
For patient’s convenience, temporary crowns, bridges or full dentures can be installed for the healing time. Dentures can be installed for the healing time.
Second Visit: 5 days in 1 visit, or split in 2 visits, 1 day each. This time is needed by the dental laboratory for the prosthetic work.
Attaching the Post
Once gum tissue has healed, the implant in the bone is uncovered and a post is attached to it. The post will support the new permanent crown. Next step is to take measurements for the crown. Dental impressions are taken in order to measure the individual size of the crown.
Placing the crown
When the crown is ready, it’s color will match your natural teeth and it can be installed on the dental implant.
Insufficient Bone Structure
In cases when the bone structure has been damaged and is insufficient to hold the implant, the Bone Grafting procedure can be applied. An artificial bone will be created and the implant will be placed only after the artificial bone is integrated within the natural one. This process takes from 4 to 6 months. After that time, the same procedure as described above can be applied. Read more about Bone Substitution.
Taking care of the implants will ensure a long-term success of the treatment. The patient is responsible for plaque removal that can be done every day by a simple brushing and careful flossing around the restored tooth. Your dentist or hygienist will instruct you on how to do it properly. A maintenance visit at your dentists should be scheduled at least once every 12-24 months.
